Hi All,
I tried to edit the path of one shortcut with notepad. It turned horribly wrong and all shortcuts became notepad icon.
I ended up using the window recovery to revert back. It there any faster way to fix this problem. I am using Windows 7.
Thanks in advance.

So you're trying to edit a Windows shortcut (aka .LNK file) with a crappy text editor like Notepad ???
Binary files are best dealed with a proper hex editor
(and you must know very well what you intend to do)
Anyway, why not use Explorer's context-menu -

Hold the shift key and right click on a shortcut, click Open With and choose default progam, click on your preferred browser, place a check mark in the always use the selected program to open this kind of file box.
Next time you want to try a different program to open some file, make sure not to check that box. -

Hi All,
Thanks for the tip. Most likely I won't be messing with shortcut anymore.
It's a nightmare if something goes wrong. Luckily, I was able to revert. -
Actually, Open With actions are applied to the linked file not the link itself and it's not available for all links (Office desktop icons (links) for instance). On the other hand, for some reason I thought the OP was talking about IE web page links, hence the browser reference.
