I posted a question about this awhile back and it seems that Audio Video editing has changed a lot since that time. I want to add new audio to sports videos. What I have been doing is demuxing VOB files with MPEGStreamclip into M2V and AIFF, creating one DV version of my highest quality video, and then importing the DV into iMovie along with the English AIFF. I edit the audio so that it matches the video in length and then export back to AIFF. I convert the AIFF in FFMPEGX to match the original audio specs for the best video. Then I mux the M2V and new audio file. This process is extremely time consuming because of the constant re-encoding that takes place and it sucks up huge amounts of hard drive space because of the need for DV. Thus, iMovie is not a simple A/V editor. And, I am now working with some MKV and TS files.

I found a program called iSkysoft Video Studio Express, which allows me to drag and drop the video file (it can handle everything from HD to low grade flv). I can separate audio from video, edit my audio, but it doesn't appear to have an audio export only option. I can only export to video, which I don't need to do.

Can anyone recommend a simple, low-cost, but very versatile A/V editing program that can handle various video file types, and will allow me to export audio only (ideally with a variety of export file options--not just AIFF--although this last part is the least of my concerns)? I should add that the desire for various video types is tied to sometimes needing to extract English audio from those files, although my final video is always high quality MPG/VOB, MKV, or TS.
