  1. On some DVDs, there is sometimes just a FEW scenes where a foreign language is spoken, so then subtitles are displayed only for those scenes.

    I'm converting DVD files to .mp4 files with FormatFactory, but I now realize that a few of the files are bad because the subtitles weren't copied too. Note I don't want subtitles displayed for the ENTIRE feature, but JUST for where foreign language is spoken.

    What should I do?

    1) I think I'll have to use something other than FormatFactory. The subtitle settings has something called "Subtitle Stream Index" and with the options "None," "Default" and then 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Default had no subtitles, and 0-9 was just subtitles in different languages for the entire thing. What converting program should I be using instead of FormatFactory that will give me the option to copy ONLY subtitles for foreign language?

    2) I don't want to start my DVD converting from the beginning with some new setting enabled. Is there a way to find out which episodes from the DVD use foreign language? This will make it so I don't have to convert the entire DVD again, but just the bad ones.

    As I recall there are two possible scenarios for forced subtitles: "forced" subtitles contained within a subtitle stream, and a separate subtitle stream just for the forced subs

    I think DVDSubEdit can find forced subtitles, but I don't know if it can detect both types or find them in VOBs on a DVD that has not been decrypted and copied to HDD. I have no DVDs with forced subs to use for performing a test.

    if you search for subs online there are several and sometimes you can download foreign speech only subs, then you might be able to just add them if you convert to mkv with mkvmergegui,
