Stock AMD heat sink and fan on AMD AM3 955 CPU.
I originally was using Arctic Silver 5 between the CPU and heat sink, a friend turned me on to Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound. Man if you ever thought the Arctic Silver was hard to apply you should try this stuff.
It seems to keep the temperatures a bit more stable but not a lot cooler, only about 1 degree on average.

Stock AMD heat sink and fan on AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. This was my experience with this processor:
I tried 2 different motherboards from Gigabyte and Asus (MUCH preferred the Gigabyte). The processor slot has very little extra space for a non-stock cooler and you need to understand that if you install a non-stock cooler, it may end up costing you 2 memory slots because it will overhang them.
AMD policy is that non-AMD coolers void their warranty. Caveat emptor. -
Corsair H-50 water cooler. It's doing a Handbrake encode at present at 70% CPU on all six cores at 43C.

I have no idea. My son assembled it for me. During summer, I just remove one side cover of the case.

Zalman 7500 CU on a Phenom II 905e quad core. I've used variants of these Zalman fans on several builds, and find them effective and quiet, even at high CPU loads (the 905e is not a good example as it is rated 65 watts and rarely sends the fan above 1200 rpm)

Stock Intel Retail box cooler. The missing option in the poll.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself. -

Stock AMD cooler. More aggressive cooling has not been needed so far.
-
For some reason I presumed that active fan cooling ment a larger aftermarket cooler.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself. -
Active fan cooling means its cooled by a fan as opposed to air cooled.

Is it quiet? That is one criteria for all my computers that must be met. Thanks

Mine is damn quiet!!!
120mm fans move more air at slower speeds & less noise than smaller 80mm fans do at higher speeds with less airflow and more noise.
With the 5 - 120mm fans & the 1 - 200mm side fan, this case is probably the quietest setup I have even owned......
Barely hear a hum with it on. -
Thermalright Ultra eXtreme 120 in push/pull on a Q6600.

Which case is that? It looks good. My opinion is that a computer should be quiet enough that the only noise you hear is the hard drives seeking. Does the H80 keep temps down with the overclocking? Since my Computer sit next to the TV I want to be able to hear the quiet passages in video. I'm getting ready to upgrade from my I7 930, Sorry to ask so many questions. Thanks TB

It's the Rosewill Armor case,

Not sure where you can get them anymore.
I bought mine last year.
And for you to hear it running you would have to have super hearing and have your TV/sound system at like 1 to hear it over anything else!!
LOL!!
Mine is on my desk next to my monitor, less than 2 feet from my ear at pretty much head level.
And with no sound what so ever from anything else, room fan, system speakers shut off, I barely hear it, it is very quiet!!
I also run the fans for the H80 at full power and the pump at full power all the time.

I have one of these case's for my quad core,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153
which I use for my HTPC in my living room next to my 46" LED and I don't even notice/hear it running, but it also uses only 6 x 120mm fans with a Corsair H50 also in push/pull configuration with dual 120mm fans.
The only thing comparable to the Armor case are these,

I just know I won't ever use anything that uses smaller fans than 120mm anymore as those things make way more mad noise with less airflow compared to 120mm & up. -
Huh...
for some reason that photo is not showing up for me, just say's Attachment 13617Last edited by Noahtuck; 25th Aug 2012 at 21:19.

Using CM Hyper 212+ in 2 pc's.....with Scythe S-Flex F & G fans.....
-
That is a nice looking layout and thanks for the links. I use Newegg a lot since Even with ground shipping most things ship from their warehouse a half hour away and I get them overnight anyway.
That is one thing I did with the computer case I'm using now. I snipped the power wire going to the LEDs on the fans so they stay running and dark next to the TV, I also only plugged in the activity LED and not the power LED. Less distraction when it is running. I know it seems like a waste to have lighted fans and disable the lights but Bays and layout is the important thing.
I use my TV as my display for everything. Cable and Satellite W/DVR TV, Media player, Computer, DVD recorder & BluRay player. That way I can start a video encoding or authoring and switch back to TV until it is done.

yeah the nice thing about those Armor cases is they have a switch on the top at the front that lets you turn the fan lights on and off while keeping the fans running.
