  1. Hi there,

I just switched my dvd player, a Koss KD260, to region free and now my region 2 discs are playing but in black and white. Is there anything I can do to get my picture back to colour?

    Thanks

Your dvd player is most likely outputting PAL to a display that cannot display it correctly. Try setting the "TV System" of your player to NTSC.

You really needed to tell us where you live in your post for this question. I will have to assume that you live in the USA or Canada. If you live somewhere else, then you definitely need to tell us. It IS relevant towards getting you help on this.

This is a sign of a PAL<->NTSC mismatch. What this means is that assuming your region 2 discs are from Europe that your Koch player is sending out a PAL signal to your TV and the TV can't handle it correctly. You will need to see if this player has an output setting for video and change it to NTSC from whatever it is set at (it may be set to ANY or MULTI). If you do not have a video output setting on your player then your Koch player cannot convert PAL to NTSC and you either have to buy another player that can convert (ie. something by Philips) or live with it.

This player is older than dirt so it's darn near miraculous it still works.

  4. Sorry, I forgot to add it but yes, I do live in Canada. I checked my players menu and there's an option to switch between PAL and NTSC. I've tried both settings and it's still black and white. Is there something I should also be changing on my TV?

This should be a player issue rather than a TV issue. I am guessing that your DVD player is NOT a converting player. That means it sends PAL video out from PAL DVDs and NTSC video out from NTSC DVDs. There's no fix for this except to buy a converting DVD player (some Philips models can still be made region free and they do convert between PAL and NTSC) or buy a TV that supports PAL video.

  6. Ok, it's not huge deal if it's in black and white for now, I'm sure I'll have to replace my player soon anyways. Thanks for the help.
