Hello, I want to convert a MKV file to mp4. Sure I read some threads here about it but can't get the right one. I want to convert the softsub from the mkv to mp4 with hardsub. I already got the right fonts so if I convert I get the right fonts. I've tried Handbrake. But it has got dead frames and weird laggy frames in it. I've also tried Xilisoft. Xilisoft can do what I want but the problem is that before I converted mkv to whatever format and I got good quality. Then I uninstalled and now I installed it again but now for some reason it's bad quality. I mean the black lines around objects and characters and so are not sharp. (I'm talking about Anime) And the black line around it isn't full but misses pixels if you know what I mean. (Can't explain it right.) So simply, what should I do,use?

Format factory is another option to look into.

I would normally suggest winff to remux the video from mkv to mp4 (I'm assuming these are h264 but I suppose they could be divx or xvid files). But remuxing won't help you if you want to hardcode the subs. For that you will have to reencode.

I'd give handbrake another shot. Perhaps something screwy happened with that particular encode session. Is it happening with a whole collection of files or just this one?

But anyway format factory is a good piece of software for encoding and does handle subtitles.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. Also there's a front end TEncoder that can burn in subs using Mencoder. I haven't tried it myself. I've only used FFmpeg with this app. But if you are familiar with Mencoder it might be worth a try.

Another approach is to use a converter that accepts .avs scripts. For simple burn in a 2 line script should work. DirectShowSource() to load in the video and TextSub() to burn in text based subs such as .srt. See AviSynth and AvsP/AvsPMod for more info on avs scripts.

There's also MKVToMP4 I've been using lately. Mostly for processing audio and muxing. It handles subs but I think it just addes them to the output container as a stream as it avoids encoding the video when possible. (But that's my assumption. I haven't used it to process subs yet.)

I tried handbrake again only this time I couldn't even open the file when it was done. The MKV file was 962mb I think and this one was I think 6.52gb. I tried to open it with VLC, CMP and quicktime. It's a mp4 file.
