convert mkv to smallest and fastest

usinc virtualdub and the mkv plugins, what combination would creat the smallest video file the fastest? (using the brightness/contrast filter)

I would use the xvid codec. And use the one pass constant quality/quantizer encoding mode (under video->compression->xvid codec->configure).

Using a Brightness/Contrast filter has NO effect on either filesize (smallness), or on speed of encoding.
(Unless you were to do the extremely foolish thing of increasing/decreasing brightness to blow out white/crush black - and make much of the image the SAME)
