  1. Hi all, just checking in. I am a low-level video editor learning slowly about video formatsa and such. Not as confused as I used to be but still a long way to go.

I am writing a (pure Java) program to edit videos - it is functional and growing, though at an early stage. I would appreciate feedback on it - any suggestions, criticisms, advice would be gratefully received. I started it to satisfy my simple needs (MPG1 --> MPG1 editing), but it may be of use to others.

It is a graphically driven NLE written in pure Java. The flow of frames from sources through to the final output is designed by mouse in the style of DataFlow diagrams (remember those?). It may never be a tool for the top end user, but it may make a useful entry/learning tool for beginners.

It is free, and will be open source as soon as the code stabilises (one more major feature to add, then a tidy up, honest).

One feature that may be of interest is that the user can define transforms in javascript (though the processing is slow) if I have not (yet) provided the feature you want as a built-in transform.

Anyway, enough puff, and I apologise if this is the wrong way to introduce the program.

    Find Gorp here.

I changed your thread title. You can adjust it by click on edit and go advanced.

But you doesn't look like a newbie. Most can't write any programs to edit videos...even if it's very basic so far.

OK, thanks for that. I am a newbie at video editing - hence asking for help and advice - I know what features I need but I do not know what others want. If I know what others want I can try to code it. (I need to understand DeNoisers, Blur, Sharpen next, and maybe tackle another codec this winter). I am quite experienced at software writing (used to do it for a job, now do it for fun).

At least I know my post is acceptable if a super-mega-moderator does not kick it off........

  5. I think once you add support for formats other than mpg1, more people will be tempted to try and give feedback/suggestions. But it's certainly a nice start

  6. Thank you for the comments.

More codecs are certainly planned, though that is a winter job.

The Java compiler article was interesting, though I am not sure that I have the right type of computation to take advantage of it.
