  1. I'm a real newbie who is just beginning to try and make DVD's from stuff that I have recorded. Was/am using a Canon Model DC320 that records on mineature hard disc's. So far I have recorded on DVD-RW and DVD-R. I have a recent version of Corel and a recent version of Sony Vegas studio. The camera records stuff in a VOB file and neither program recognizes the VOB file. Questions are: 1) can you suggest a BASIC text that will help me learn basic info re editing, 2) what is a Codec and do I need to care about it. Any assistance appreciated. Regards, Jim

Oh yes, what is a capture card and do I need to get one?

maybe you should try converting the vobs to mpeg. vobs are mpeg-2 inside the vobs. try learning how to use vob2mpg.
