Hello all.
I'm trying to teach myself how to extract a few minutes from a DVD movie for teaching purposes.
Someone gave me a DVD with VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP and VIDEO_TS.VOB files on it (from a TV series) to practice with.
I tried Win X DVD ripper and it extracts just fine, but with subtitles in what appears to be, on different attempts, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, but NOT Spanish, which is what I need.
Even if I specify the subtitle language to Win X, it appears to do something different.
All help much appreciated...

Use DVD Decrypter but use it in IFO (this is NOT the same as ISO - do NOT confuse them!) mode. You can use it to rip only specific subtitles and audio tracks. You can use some other program like maybe DVD Shrink for editing.
