I have a really nice video of one of our products. It was the only take of several that looked and sounded really good. Unfortunately, I or someone bumped the tripod during the filming. So half way through the video the camera shifts about 2 degrees to the left. Is there any way to track an object in the video and center the entire video on it without having to reshoot the entire video? Basically getting rid of the "bump"? If possible using free software.
I've tried using DeShaker with VirtualDUB, but the advanced features are getting a bit to advanced for me. For instance if I use the "ignore pixels outside" option, how does it know when that object moves half way through the video?
Thanks

Is it a static object?
Yes there is, but not with deshaker. It will smooth out the bump, but it won't be a rock stable shot (as if it was shot on a tripod). Deshaker is more for smoothing hand held shots out, not a rock stable stabilizer. You cannot "lock on" to an object with deshaker
Eitherway, you need a motion tracker, something like after effects, mocha, nuke. The only free one that is actively developed that I'm aware of is blender (I haven't used it's motion tracker, but it should be able to do it)
If it's a small bump you might be able to manually position a few frames in a NLE, and zoom in to get rid of the black borders (you will have misaligned edges between prebump and postbump) . If it's a static background then some software allow you to "fill in " the borders with adjacent frames avoiding the need to zoom
