  1. I have a number of avi videos archived at high quality (4000Kbps) and what I believe is 'native' resolution (720x500 or so-the exact figure varies). I need to copy them to a lower quality & resolution for my PVP. I've found software that lets me do it 'the long way' by converting them to DVDs and then re-ripping them but is there anything that will do it directly? Thanks.

Try Xvid4PSP. It's not crazy complicated to use but you might find taking a quick look at a guide (do a search to find one) to be helpful before you get started. It can do a direct re-encoding by going AVI -> AVI instead of AVI -> DVD -> AVI like you are doing.

  3. Thanks. I'll give that a try.

Update. So far Xvid4PSP is way too complicated for me. Granted I don't have expert knowledge of video stuff, but I've been programming PC's for over 30 years...I can figure out most programs, but not this one. Thanks, but I think I'll try something else.
