Hi,
I am capturing my old Video8 8mm cassettes to AVI, using ATi TV Wonder 650 USB, mostly without sync problems.
My system is:
Core i5 750
4gb
Ati 4870 1gb
2tb Hdd
and the ATi 650 USB
But I am having a problem with "audio sync". The problem is as follows...
1-. I start capturing a sequence of video --> audio/video sync it's perfect.
2-. That video sequence ends (When you film family videos with your camcorders you have 50+ video sequence on one video cassette).
3-. There is a fraction of the film without any recording (sometimes 1 sec. others 3 or 5).
4-. But I am still capturing because I don't like to start-stop-start, etc. Because I would need to be in fron of the PC while capturing.
*I prefer to capture al the video contained in one cassette and then CUT in Virtualdub and compress.
5-. After that "non filmed" part, my Ati 650 seems to loose the audio/video sync, only some milliseconds, but as this "non filmed" sequences are more abundant on a cassette you start noticing the de-syncro on audio/video... at the end of the capture file you have 5 or 6 seconds of differences between audio and video.
My questions is as follows:
A TBC would help me solve this problem? If NO is the answer... what would help?
For information sake, I am looking at a PRIME IMAGE Inc. model TBC/FREEZE II.
Thanks and bye.

Jagabo, thanks for your reply...
A TBC Will help? Or a TBC will solve that problem?
Also, do you think the "PRIME IMAGE TBC/FREEZE II" is a good option?
I also have been looking some "digital video processors" with TBC, might be a good option or not? -
A full frame TBC will help with that type of problem.
When i recorded from my 8mm camera to pc strait then in those blank spaces it losses sync or it drooped or inserted frames. Then i passtrough camera to dvd recorder and from there to pc i never drooped frames since then.
Although jagabo sad full frame ( not that I don't think jagabo is right ) can assure you that for that job you are good even with field based tbc/ frame sync is enough. and can even strait some tbc errors ( if you have them on your 8mm tapes) -
Thanks for the reply mammo1789, I will search for a TBC then...
Do you think a "digital video processor" with integrated TBC would work here?
I think I don't have too many time base errors as these 8mm are "1st generation", not that old maybe 25 years, well kept and never reproduced... So If I can get to fix the sync problem and improve pictures, it would be great. -

I will look for the DVD recorder to make the passthru... see how much will it cost.
I was talking about a FAROUDJA "dvp"... they are very cheap, and it's seems it deinterlace the video nicely and also enhance the analog signal, that with the integrated TBC should make my capture process easier.
The other alternative is the TBC and hook my camcorder to that...
It's the Faroudja DVP-2200 -

But used Faroudja equipment it's cheap...probably not USD$10.000 good, but is it USD$100 good?
-
The Faroudja DVP3000 is $20,000 USD. Seeing as how the 2200 sold for $8000 and often sells used for half-price, and seeing as how you got it for $100 (
), you oughtta use it 'til it croaks.

Here you have a Faroudja for under usd$200
This might help capturing, deinterlacing and enhancing picture?

The 2200 does have a TBC and appears to have some color correction facility. But what do you mean by improving image quality? Whether the 2200 has noise reduction comparable to what you could do on a PC, other members might have some info on that. The unit works with a remote. Did you notice the 2200's rear output panel? VGA, plus YCbCr and RGB output (BNC connections only, no audio). You might want to check its user manual before you commit. I see it's being sold for as little as $89.

Sanlyn, thank you for the reply.
Finally I ended buying a full frame TBC, namely the "Big VooDoo TBC10 BVTBC8" by Key West.
The specs here: HERE
For what I have been reading it's not the best TBC (C+ according to Lordsmurf) but it will surely help me with my problem.
I paid a ridiculous price for a brand new unit so... no worries.
I will post the video captures once I receive it.
Any suggestions? Recommendations?
