  1. Is there any way use an older version (6.4 or something) in Win XP. The one included isn't too good in my opinon.

  3. Sounds too good to be true, but i found it in C:\program\Windows media player

The file seems very small, is there a downside to all this???

windows media 6.4 is the stupides thing in the world.

It will play whatever u tell it to if there's a codec.

and it uses so so so much less ram and cpu than 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0

  5. What would I do to use Windows Media Player 6.4 on windows ME? I tried downloading it and doing a regular installation but that didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.

  7. i love wmp 6.4 over any of the newer versions and i have facts here and comparisons here on why i prefer it-

    Good things about wmp 6.4-

it loads a hell of a lot quicker than 7 or 7.1
it plays anything the newer ones can(as long as u have codecs of course)-
and to clarify something, wmp 7 and 7.1 installs the smr codec so it isnt just the prog, u still need to install divx and so on to play specific things

It can also tell u the res of your movie always
it can also tell u the encoded fps and the actual fps while playing.
It can tell u if ur audio is offset and by how many millisec it is
6.4 allows u to right click avis and look at their details like duration\res\fps\vid bitrate and audio bitrate w\o having to open the file and actually preview the vid w\o opening the player

it can tell u the duration down to 100ths\sec
It can let u see all codecs used and change and configure them while watching the movie.

    Downsides to 6.4-

    it doesnt have graphics effects
its audio EQ is in the properties box rather than built into player
it doesnt have video correction features or audio enhancement like truebass and the "wow effect"

its not skinnable(as far as i know)
it will not let u rip cds
it does not generate playlist for you
it does not let u see every song in a playlist when one is imported

This is everything i can think of off the top of my head.

I always prefer wmp 6.4 just for the fact that i can find out the exact duration and the exact encoded and actual fps of a movie and of course, its loading time is by far, way faster.

  8. Right click on the file and "Open With" >"Choose Program">"Media Player"
(the one that looks like a scene clapper and 321 in it).
