  1. Ok, heres the story: USB capturing devices such as Dazzle DVC-80 or Pinnacle Linx (drivers fully updated), Windows XP (fully updated) and MGI Videowave 4 or Studio Version 7 (fully updated), Compaq Presario 7000.

If I run the captures without a signal being fed to the capture devices, they run normally, meaning that the counters run and the software appears to be running normally. As soon as I feed a signal to the devices, meaning that I connect the cable, turn the vcr or camcorder on, etc, the software locks up and I have to kill the program. It only dies when I kill the program and unplug the capture device.

I have gone through and done all the things dazzle suggests, dealing with DMA, memory paging, hardware acceleration, etc. Microsoft has an update for video capturing for Direct X 8.0, but says XP users don't need it.

Because the same thing happens with both devices and both software programs, I feel that the problem is with my PC or XP, but am unable to find a solution. Anyone out there have an answer?

  2. If you can, take those usb capture devices back to the store and get a PCI video capture card instead.
USB capture devices don't seem to work very well and seem to have audio sync problems when you do get them to work.

  3. I would if I could, but finances are tooo tight right now. Im not looking for high quality right now...just want to take some pics of personal stuff. When I have time and money I will move up to PCI.

Mine must be an original situation, nobody seems to have a solution. I'm pretty sure its not the device or the software, since I've used several of each...must be something with XP or the mobo.
