    Choose another video codec like the xvid codec and then adjust the bitrate to get the file size you want.

    In virtualdub under File->Video->Compression.

  3. i hear that In virtualdub software there is no need to re-encode the video file after editing.
    if i add filters then only re-encode is required.

    why only virtual dub is increasing output file size whereas avidemux not?
    whats difference between both softwares?

    Isn't that like a sticky, or the 1st thing in the Virtualdub manual?

    Go back to your original DVD and re-rip to MPEG2 video files (with AC3 audio), edit it without re-encoding by using a I-frame MPEG editor (like Cuttermaran), then when you finally have a final program like you want, encode ONCE to your final/destination/playback format (maybe saving the intermediate just in case).
    If you are using Vdub to edit either your original MPEG2 or your Xvid copy (the one listed in the OP) and you are NOT editing on the I-frame (key frame), then Virtualdub (or any other editor) MUST re-encode at least the surrounding GOP. That's probably your problem.

    And I'm sorry, but NO! Virtualdub is NOT a good editor. It is a workable editor, but a true editing experience having to be done on Vdub would be a nightmare. I wouldn't do more editing on Vdub than top-n-tails or commercial removal. Don't kid yourself.

    I don't think you can use direct stream copy mode for avc/h264 video.

  10. Any codec in an AVI container can be direct stream copied. The issue here is the source filter. Some deliver decompressed frames to VirtualDub. So direct stream copy mode delivers uncompressed AVI files. The DirectShow source filter delivers uncompressed frames. I think the MP4 source filter can deliver compressed frames but I don't have it installed anymore so I can't verify that.
