  2. You can demux the files; drag the audio in an appropriate program; adjust the volumen and then mux it back together !

I may be missing something here, but with video files with too quiet audio I just increase the gain in my software player (99% of the time smplayer) to 350%. Wouldn't that be a lot easier?

  4. Not all media players increase the volume above 100% and video isn't always played using a PC.

Extracting the audio, re-encoding it and using the new version to replace the old is the only way to permanently adjust the volume. Yamb should extract the audio from MP4s, VirtualDubMod for AVIs. If the audio is MP3 it's volume can be adjusted without re-encoding.

Instructions for using Yamb and VirtualDubMod would be whole topics on their own, as would instructions on how to re-encode the audio. Maybe start by installing those programs and post back for any help you may need.

And I'm not a mind reader. Yamb only runs on Windows as far as I know. And since the OP don't give any info about OS and the like I don't know what advice to give

I hope you didn't think I was referring to your reply when I posted, because you're right, it's hard to know where to start when someone asks a fairly "general" question, and you can spend a whole lot of time typing instructions only to find the original poster disappears, or was looking for a program with a special "fix my audio" button
Hence my only suggesting a couple of programs to get them started (assuming they run Windows).

No No I don't think that. I was just bewildered. Still is.
