avisynth and quenc (i use quenc instead of hcenc because it can convert audio and video and then mux audio and video with muxman.

or try the "all in one" avs2dvd
I love it when a plan comes together!

I'd second avstodvd ... I don't really think avisynth is appropriate to this user.

It sounds to me like the OP is using files from god only knows where, made with god only what codecs. avstodvd was the only dvd encoding/authoring program I tried that would deal with that crap.

However, it does that by using 3rd party non microsoft codecs installed as well. I wouldn't have a problem with this with windows xp but I wouldn't use them on windows 7. It may be ok if you only use one program that installs them, but you can mess up your system if you have too many installed.

For quality video in avstodvd you should always use 2 pass vbr mode. That was the only way I could ever get consistently good quality.

2 pass vbr will take much longer to encode ... on an older single core computer it'll probably take twice as long to encode it as it would to watch the video. And that doesn't include the 25 minutes or so it'll take to actually burn the dvd (use imgburn to burn, nothing else comes close).

You can use other software that promises fast and great quality, but 'fast' and 'quality' don't exist together when encoding dvd's.

But AviSynth is what Avs2DVD uses to frameserve into the encoders it supports.

I know, you're saying doing it manually on his own using AviSynth is beyond him. But he asked what's the best quality flv mp4 and mkv to dvd converter, not the one within his capabilities or the easiest to use. And an AviSynth script frameserved into CCE (also my choice) or HCEnc is the answer.

You cannot have both the best and the fastest in one tool, but WinAvi Video Converter is certainly among the fastest for your purpose.
