  1. Hiya all,

I'm using a Black Magic Intensity pro PCI-E and have a PS3 connected to it though composite,
recording uncompressed at 720p@60 to a raid array goes all perfect and smooth (Expect for a drop at the beginning sometimes)
My i7 2600k has no problem handling the card what so ever, yet, I experience a rather annoying problem when I am using the capture card in combination with MPC-HQ or VLC.

This all started out about a week ago, whenever I use my capture card in MPC the image would freeze for a split second at random intervals, the problem around that time was also a faulty sata cable causing the DPC Latency to rise unbelievable high numbers making both audio and video playback unbearable. Fixing that didn't solve the problem with MPC, when I use the capture card in VLC the frame rate is way under 60FPS, making me feel sick. Still, at that time, capturing with Premiere or using the software that came with the card worked absoluteness fine.

So I decided to reinstall my pc, which didn't solve the problem at all. In MPC-HQ I'm using the EVR Sync Output, resizer set to Bicubic A (Changing this doesn't help). If I turn on Alternative vsync it works, but you can see the annoying vsync line going down. The thing that is the most odd about this entire problem is that the problems only arise when in fullscreen mode. And when using Debut Profesional there is a annoying vsync line as well. (For mpc-hq, the fps in VLC stays low)

I have tried to try different nvidia drivers, played around with their new adaptive vsync feature, installed Virtu MVP, but nothing of that worked. The DPC latency is all fine as well. The weirdest thing is that this just happend from one day to another, a week ago this all worked fine without a problem what so ever. And since I don't have a nice looking LCD-TV just yet, using my capture card to play the PS3 is my only solution right now, I don't want to switch outputs and cables whenever I want to play or need to record.

If needed, I can point a camera at my screen and record so you can see what I mean. If my explanation isn't clear enough.

    Workstation specs:
    • Intel i7 2600k @ 3,6Ghz
    • 12GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
    • Nvidia Geforce 560
    • Intel HD 3000 (IGP)
    • Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (Z68)
    • BlackMagic Intensity Pro
    • Windows 7 ultimate sp1 x64
    • M-audio audiophile 2496

  2. play while watching task manager and see if the bottleneck is the cpu. if it stays well under 100% then it isn't.

A i7 2600k should be able to handle it just fine though, anyway I checked and the cpu usage stays around 1~4% in both window and full screen mode. I can record to h264 using ffmpeg in Debut Profesional without getting any frame drops what so ever, so perhaps it's the video card (driver) messing things up? These problems don't occur when playing back a uncompressed avi or a mp4 though.

  4. well if it worked fine before what did you change recently that might effect video performance? since you have a graphics card is the hd3000 disabled in the bios?

  5. No, I have the HD300 enabled as I use a 3-4 monitor setup, it has always being on and it never had caused problems before, I'm going to try to see if using a older nvidia driver from March (296.10) might fix it. That and maybe windows updates is the only thing I can think of that could have had a impact. I've also tried to test it without any drives expect for the SSD connected and without my m-audio, the problem keeps happening.

    Edit:
Using older video card drivers doesn't seem to make a difference.
