Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Bitmap>SVG converter?
I'm tracing them now, but it's too much work.

Thanks, but how about good and $39ish?
That Blumentals GIF maker was a good deal, thanks for that one. Great little utility. Haven't had a chance to make a really funny GIF yet though.
Maybe I should animate theWhoo, scary,eh?
(I'm scared)
And my avatar needs sprucing up. Hey, it looks so good now, I can use it as a sig.

You can try inkscape/potrace or autotrace as well - they are free/open source

Hey, I saw this on TV. Are these posts public? I guess so. Man, this new technology is fast.

Potrace is out. That's a DOS CLI.
AutoTrace is out. Too old.
InkScape. .... HmmmLast edited by budwzr; 7th Jul 2012 at 00:13.

what kinds of images / shapes are you doing ?
usually you have to some sort of clean up after autotracing in whatever program - rarely do they ever get it rigth 100% - but it still is a huge time saver than doing the entire thing manually
are you sure potrace is CLI? There are menus in these instructions (or maybe that's potrace through inkscape)?

InkScape is awesome! Although I do have CorelDraw X4, I like InkScape better. Thanks, never heard of it before.
No, I'm not tracing by hand, hahaha, I do use the autotrace in Corel, but InkScape gives me what I want right away, a flattened trace, but the curves are editable. Corel makes it into layers and sections and you have to delete some and a lot of the time it takes a lot of handwork, like you said.
I saw somewhere in the help, I think, that Ink uses Potrace. I guess it's a plugin. That's the InkScape Wiki you're seeing, I went to the Potrace site and it looked like 1980 over there. All I found was the CLI version.
But the main thing is, thanks to your help, I discovered InkScape. I'm all googoo on it already, it's very cool. I like the feel of it, Corel is a little stuffy. But they are clones basically, except Ink looks like it has more creative stuff.
What I'm making is nothing yet. I'm still trying to get by with skinning SVG's in that cheapo 3D program I have. Mainly I want to create content I can blast out of an emitter. Something cool, not the usual sparks, smoke, concrete crap.
I'm using leaves, balls, hearts, simple stuff right now, then I want to advance to multiple emitters and some choreography. Hahaha. Down here in poorville we have to be patient and learn everything manually. In rich-appleville, they can drag and drop and call it their own, but not my style.
Hey, this is my thread, so we can call it like it is. I hope one of those AppleBuzzerds doesn't fly in here.harharhar - I got my flyswatter ready.
I think I'm going to make an Apple "Promo". If we accept the Apple premise that "less" is "more", what if we applied it to other things in life. Do you go to a restaurant and expect to get less, for more? And then posing like you're "into something good"?
Hey, this topic is turning into a blog! Hahaha I think my neighbors are smokin something weird because it smells like catshit burning, and all of a sudden I was thinking of going to get some Doritos, hahaha.
I haven't refreshed this page in a while because the mods may be getting ready to crack down. They probably keep an eye on new posts but following this one might have been too much reading, hahaha. They probably nodded out.
I guess I better let this thread go, and float down to the bottom of the stack where all the useless banter is kept. Hahaha, I'll probably get "moved" to the off-topic forum, hahaha.Last edited by budwzr; 7th Jul 2012 at 01:40.
