  1. Hi guys,

I have a Sony HDR-HC1E and am trying to capture using Premiere Pro CS6. For some reason it is capturing the file into an MP3, which is unreadable and no video is contained. I have checked all my settings, capturing in HDV, Project settings etc. Capturing into DV works fine. The only thing that concerns me is that my camera is showing as 'HDVin' rather than 'HDVout'. I've seen a few others have had this problem, yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer on how to fix it.

And just for the record, capturing used to work fine!

  2. Just to add - it captures fine in DV which is now what I have resorted to. Would still like to know why I cant capture in HDV though!

  3. Is it capturing mp3 or mp2? mp3 would be really unusual.

Check your camera settings. Based on your symptoms, be sure 1) you are outputting HDV -- not auto, and 2) that you have shot HDV and not DV in the first place.

  4. It is capturing MP3 (into a massive file). I have shot HDV 1080i, and as far as I can tell - I am outputting HDV. Premiere Pro *usually* doesn't even allow for a capture to begin if you're set on the wrong mode - i.e. trying to capture HDV on DV project and vice versa. It was working fine, but I have reinstalled Windows and Adobe since then..

  5. try capturing with hdvsplit. easy and free. then import into cs6.

  6. I tried HDV split, the file (AFAIK came out 720x576) and for some reason wouldn't import into Premiere Pro

that would be strange. HDVsplit only captures HDV 1440x1080. 720x576 would be DVavi output, not even in the same ballpark. sounds like your cam is in the wrong mode or is no longer working properly.

  8. Maybe it was but resizing it then. I just assumed as when I opened the output file with VLC it only filled a quarter of the screen or so, nothing like it normally would for a native HD file. Might have another look tonight, still doesn't explain why Premiere Pro won't capture...

  9. use mediainfo on the captured file.

  10. And try changing your file extension to .mts .m2t or .mpg and see if that makes any difference. Also try .dv or .avi. mp3 still makes no sense.

Yeah, got the same problem with my HDR-HC1E.
Was trying 2 capture even using Sony Vegas. Vegas understand it's own captured files, but Premiere has not. Not his own, and not veags .m2t files.
    Still searching for the answer.

Adobe Encoder and Adobe After Effects can't understand this .mp3 and vegas-m2p files 2.

MediaInfo says about video-side of that .mp3 files:
    - MPEG Video
    - HDV 1080i
    - Version 2
    - Main@High 1440

    Pretty simple.

hdvsplit is supposed to capture to .m2t that's the HDV file, same as on the tape. can't help with cs6, but all versions of premiere pro before cs6 have been able to use hdvsplit HDV .m2t files for at least 6 years.

even when it worked premiere never "captured" HDV, it converted to i-frame .mpeg, not .m2t files.

Have you updated to the latest version or checked what's been fixed in the latest patch?
I tried capturing from my HV20 and initially PP locked up when i tried to edit capture settings. I had to turn off the camera, load PP, change the capture settings and then turn the camera on.

Problem solved: I could change the file format of the mp3 files to m2t files which were playable and editable on video editing software. My Premiere also had captured into mp3 files of giant sizes (which meant video was captured also). Now I don't have a problem playing them. Thank you, smrpix for the help. I had tried earlier converting to avi, mpg,... but none worked.

i only change the extension part of the file name via right clicking on the file and renaming it.

Which means it was never really mp3 to begin with but that your .ts file was somehow being renamed. A simple MediaInfo readout would have clued everyone in on what to do.

Sorry but it does not work. Although I convert the files to .ts and .m2t, I can not run with wmp or import them in adobe premiere because not recognized by these programs. The files run only with gom player.
