  1. What software do you suspect was used to create this commercial? I would like to learn how to create content like this, for use in training courses at the hospital where I work:

Probably NOT any single app. Likely a combination of 3D CGI (incl.: 3DSMax, Maya, SoftImage, Blender, etc.), NLE (incl. AVID MC, Premiere, FCP, Vegas, Edius, etc) & 3D Compositing apps (incl. AfterEffects, Nuke, Combustion, etc).

It's a bit repetitive with the 3D rotation/flipping, but at least it's clean. Not really "high-end", but neither is it something a hobbyist could do (without those apps and A LOT OF TIME).

  3. most of that can be done in vegas pro. a lot of it's 2d title rotations. the 3d parts you could skip. i made this in vegas today for a video credit roll.

I agree with Cornicopia. I see several different types of software; Flash, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, and After Effects.

No, some of those 3d models would have to have been rendered in their native animating app, then composited in AE maybe.

  7. Naaah...I do work similar to this on a daily basis. AE has some powerful 3D plug-ins.

The only questionable spot would be the Graph at :20 but that is easily achieved with any number of 3D plugins

The plane and the iphone are just stock 3D objects you can download

This is fairly basic After Effects.....anyone with a moderate/advanced know how of the tool could do this 2-3 days

I see several 3D models that would require more than base AE. Plugins, possibly. Most of it is effects work. That could be AE or a few other programs.

I'd say something like this would take decently advanced effects editing skills. That one-minute spot probably took dozens of hours, minimum, including aggregation and shooting of all assets. The editing alone may be 2-3 days, but the full project easily took much longer.

I'd been part of projects like this, creating source assets, as well as doing final distribution encoding/authoring.

More than one person is usually involved.

  9. Thank you all for your input. It looks like as a starting point, I could start learning After Effects. I was thinking about learning how to create mobile learning / reference apps, but I think our organization would have more need for higher-end videos before they have a need for mobile learning developers.

    Thanks again!
