    Hello!
    My Hauppauge WinTV PCI FM and on-board sound share IRQ 10 and this cause skipping audio when I capture in stereo mode. How can I change IRQ on my Hauppauge card?
    Thanks...

  2. Your OS? 98SE? XP? Win2K?

  4. See if this helps:

    Freeing up IRQs (if necessary) to enable your devices to have one IRQ each. Try these steps, (rebooting after each one, then trying the next, and the next, until the devices aren't sharing that IRQ any longer):

    --If you do not use any USB devices, disable the USB controller, by going to Control Panel - System - Device Manager, or better yet disable in the BIOS setup if your BIOS has such an option.

    --If you don't use all of your COM ports (COM1 or COM2 for a modem perhaps), disable the COM ports that you do not use, by going to Control Panel - System - Device Manager, or better yet disable in the BIOS setup if your BIOS has such an option.

    --If you do not use any DOS applications that require sound (i.e. classic old games), disable any DOS sound emulators, by going to Control Panel - System - Device Manager.

    If they still won't move off that IRQ after you free up enough IRQs for them to be able to grab one, in the PnP/PCI section of your BIOS setup there should be an option to enable "force ESCD" or "Clear NVRAM" (some boards, such as prebuilt Compaq/Dell/GW2K systems may use a custom 'crippled' set of available BIOS options that may not include those to keep novices from getting in trouble, which they then have to support under warranty). If that makes them move to their own IRQ, then reboot and make sure that the option you enabled is now disabled, as you don't need it every time you boot, and it lengthens boot time when enabled.

    NOTE: Sometimes slots will share IRQs, and that may or may not be avoidable, and you'll have to pull and shuffle cards. For instance, on the ABit BX-133 RAID Mainboard (this is just that particular model of mainboard, and your mainboard may differ):

    ==============
    EXAMPLE

    The AGP slot and PCI-1 share an IRQ (so if you have an AGP card, don't use PCI-1 slot for anything, this also applies to most motherboards)
    PCI-2 and PCI-5 share one IRQ
    PCI-3 and the IDE controller share an IRQ
    PCI-4 and the USB controllers share an IRQ

    Manually assigning the IRQs is possible in the "PnP/PCI configuration" BIOS submenu.
    PIRQ_0 is for AGP and PCI-1
    PIRQ_1 is for PCI-2 and PCI-5
    PIRQ_2 is for PCI-3 and the IDE controller
    PIRQ_3 is for PCI-4 and USB controllers
    =================

    Remember, that is just one make and model of motherboard. Refer to your own manual for your own specs.

    I am having this exact problem (almost). Mine insists on assiging itself to IRQ 11, which is the same as my on board audio. However, this causees my system to crash very frequently, especially when you try to do ANYTHING with audio. I have win 98 but am "upgrading" to Win 2K. I would like to resolve this issue before I upgrade. I maually changed my PCI slot 2 to IRQ 4 in BIOS. BUT, the on board audio changed to 4 right along with it! I already disabled my serial ports to free up IRQ's and windows 98 will not allow me (no way at all) to change my IRQ in the device manager. Any input would help, I'm continuing to work on it.

  6. Here's how I solved this problem for future reference. I removed the card and put in in slot 1 (closest to processor). It then assigned it IRQ 3. IRQ 3 is the same as my display controller. I then moved the card to slot 3 but it still assigned IRQ 3 to both the display controller and wintv card. I then went back into the BIOS and enabled a comm port and assigned it IRQ3. I rebooted and somehow it made my card 10 and display something else. No more lockups at all and caps OK.
