  1. Using SMP 0.8.0 in Vista x64. It always starts in what I'll call "non maximized screen." It cuts off a bit of the lower control bar below Windows task bar. When I click SMP's maximize button, it resolves the screen position & entire control bar is visible. It's not as though doing this makes a big change in window size.

In Prefs/Interface, Main Window / "REmember position & size" is checked. I've tried all 3 options for auto resize - no change.
Every time I open it, I maximize the window so entire control bar/ time status is visible, then close it like that. Have to repeat this every time it's opened.

I don't know if others see this behavior. The screen is already covering most of the monitor when it starts. The only thing clicking the "maximize" button does is shift the whole UI up by 1/8 - 3/8 inches or so, not really make the screen much bigger. Either way, it won't remember this, though the options indicate it should.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've been using smplayer for some time but I don't start video in fullscreen mode as a rule ... I just double click. I've never run it in vista either but I doubt that'd be an issue.

The machine I'm typing this into is running linux so I don't think I can meaningfully test it ... it may not work quite the same. Actually now that I think of it there aren't any videos loaded on this one anyway ... I guess I'm not much help.

I don't generally do beta versions but I believe the one I was using on windows 7 was r4316. You could try that. The newer ones I had tried had issues with h.264 because mplayer (smplayer is just a front end/GUI for mplayer) was near a new version and the newer builds of mplayer weren't stable (this is why I usually avoid betas). There are newer versions I haven't tried that may work fine ... a new major of mplayer came out.

Anyway, I'm running smplayer on linux now and I probably won't remember I was using build 4316 for long.

I'd suggest the smplayer support forum. I only used it once for the aforementioned mplayer build issues but he was pretty responsive. It's here:

  3. Thanks H Rob,
I don't start video in fullscreen mode
I tried to make it clear that I wasn't talking about "full screen", but "maximized" (there's a difference in these & easily confused). "Full Screen" doesn't display any controls or toolbars unless move mouse to top or bottom. That's NOT what I mean. "Maximized" expands the app's UI to fill the screen, but still shows controls, toolbars.

You may be right - this is a strange problem & only those very familiar w/ the front end SMPlayer might have an idea.

I mean, like opening an app or say, explorer.exe, they often open in minimized or 1/2 screen mode, etc. For a few apps, there's little diff in total size of screen in "less than fully maximized" mode & the "maximized" screen. That's the case for me w/ SMP. Regardless of prefs settings or the screen settings when I close SMP, it opens in a mode that is nearly maximized, but part of lower control bar is hidden below Windows apps status / quick launch bar. None of the control bar should be hidden - on any app, ever.

When I open SMP each time, it almost fills entire screen (98%), & part of the control bar is hidden at bottom. Click the middle "maximize screen" button at top, R, & it raises the whole UI just a bit, so the control bar is fully visible. That's what it doesn't remember - to start SMP in a maximized screen (not "full screen") - or at least not hide part of control bar. In prefs, "start in full screen" is UNchecked).
