develop simple app that convert images to video & transitions & text

Hello all
im total beginner in the video filed i know there is ffmpeg , mplayer , image magik / scripts
but i have no idea if it possible to combine or there is better way to create problematically simple function
that take N number of images + mp3/wav file and creates clip with transitions between the images .
and later i like to add Text in the clip .
where to start ? is there any tutorials ? some links / hints ?
im doing the app in c++ .

What you are trying to do is called a Slideshow. Adding in custom transitions is a major addition. Pre-defined transitions standard. Synching to music is standard. Superimposing text usually built in, or subtitles possibly.

If you want to re-invent the wheel, it can be done. From a command-line is gonna be just extra hassle and really not a good idea. They're Pictures, you need to look at them.
