OK, this is probably a very simple problem and I hate to sound like a noob, but I have been at this for days and I haven't yet been able to figure this out.
Here's the problem: I have Aimersoft Video Converter Ultimate, and I have been trying to convert several MKV files to a different format to run on my video editing program, Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0. The problem is every time I try to convert the file, the lines of the new converted video are broken and distorted, like an interlaced look. This happens in all conversion formats I've tried (WMV, AVI, MP4, even MKV again) and all the codecs I've tried (VLC, H.264, and XviD). This same problem is also happening to some AVI files that I've tried to convert with the same program as well. I have played around with the deinterlacing settings on my converter, and so far nothing has worked.
I am not sure if it is my converter, the source files, if I have a conflicting codec installed on my computer, or if there's something else I'm missing here. The MKV and AVI files have a different profile completely, and the same problem happens to both of them. It seems like it shouldn't be that hard to do, but so far, it has been. And I have some other MKV files that are different from the others I've been trying, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem like the same problem is present when I convert those...
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Other details: I run a Windows Vista Home Edition PC, 64-bit.

Have you tried convert with anything else? Like handbrake (to mp4), format factory, freemake video converter, etc.

I have another converter, Any Video Converter, but it's much less powerful, isn't as fast, output quality is less, and clipping the video doesn't work the way it should. The MKV files won't work in that one, but the AVI files do, and the broken-line/interlace problem does not seem to occur, but the quality is much less because of the converter's power.
The Aimersoft converter usually works so well for me, and the interface is so easy, it would be nice to be able to figure out the problem with that one. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to buy anything else for my video work at the moment. And I did figure out an alternative way to convert the MKV files, but is it a lot of extra work and run-around. :/
I'll go try a couple of the free converters and see if the problem is still there. -
OK, both the MKV and the AVI files seem to convert fine with Freemake Video Converter, which makes me wonder if it's a conflicting codec issue in my other converter.
Aside from the unknown problem still happening with my Aimersoft converter, my immediate file conversion issue is resolved. Thank you for the link to the Freemake Converter. I had never heard of that converter before. Your assistance on this matter is much appreciated.
