If you shrink a blu-ray to a standard dvd with BDrebuilder will it play on a standard dvd player?

First of all, you're not "ripping" with BDrebuilder. Although a bunch of people of questionable intelligence (sadly including the good folks at DVDFab) have decided that "rip" means darn near anything on the planet, in reality it only refers to the act of getting the contents of a CD, DVD or BD disc off that disc and onto a PC hard drive, decrypting if necessary. BDrebuilder CANNOT rip. Camcorder bootleg recordings of movies are not "rips". Recording a VHS tape to a DVD is not "ripping" either.

Second, I've never used BDrebuilder to do anything but shrink to BD-25 discs, but some say that there is a movie only to DVD-5 or DVD-9 option within the program. You would need to use that. And you need to be sure that you are producing DVD output as BD or AVCHD format on a DVD-5 or DVD-9 disc will NOT play on a standard DVD player.

Not by default it won't. But it can be set up to convert to DVD-Video playable on any DVD player. Movie only, though, no menus.

I've used BD Rebuilder quite a few times to convert blu ray to dvd-video. It works well as a general rule, though you might run into issues now and again when the original blu ray has HD MA DTS audio.

Thanks for the replys, I understand the difference between ripping and converting, I use BDrebuilder to shrink blu-rays to BD25, But I noticed in the BDrebuilder program you can also shrink movies down to a BD5 or BD9 main movie only, So what does the B before the number 5 an 9 stand for? I'm guessing it stands for Blu-ray which will not play on a standard DVD player.

Did you not read, or maybe not understand, my reply earlier? Or Kerry56's? You can set it up to make a standard DVD. Had you even looked at the guides listed on the BD-Rebuilder page, you'd have found Baldrick's for doing exactly what you're asking. You could even have saved yourself the trouble of creating this thread and making yourself look foolish:

Yes. The B tells you that the movie is still in blu ray format (or AVCHD) and won't play on a regular dvd player. BD5 and BD9 are small enough to burn on a single or double layer blank dvd, respectively. These videos, when burned to a disc, will play on most blu ray players, but not all.

But BD Rebuilder can also be used to make dvd-video, using the Alternate Movie Only Output mode. Instead of encoding with the H264 encoder, you use HCenc. The blu ray original movie is converted to dvd compliant mpeg2, with AC3 audio and authored into a dvd-video to fit either a single or double layer dvd, depending on how big you want the output.

BD Rebuilder can also make mp4 or mkv files out of your blu ray source.
