    Hi

I need to troubleshoot a BNC connection and would need a "video signal generator" for that.
I call it like that in lack of the right word for this device.
It would need to generate a (analog) PAL signal, but of course it would not hurt if it could create a variety of other signals (HD).
Ideally this is a small and portable device and has a BNC connector.
If anybody knows about that, it would be awesome to hear about it.

    Thanks.

  2. Get a portable DVD player with composite out. And use a BNC/RCA adapter:

Then make a DVD with the test patterns you want.

    Cool Thanks.
I have to check out the Testcard Generator.
From quickly overviewing it, I didn't really get if I can buy that or I have to solder that.
I do have a DVD player with composite out.
But I was looking for something more handy and more professional.
In the sense where I can modify the signal exactly and see the results.
E.g. PAL vs NTSC, Raw video signal etc.
    Thanks again

  4. If you want something more professional, you must look at this kind of device: http://www.rohde-schwarz.be/fr/products/broadcasting/broadcasting_measurement/broadcasting_tm/

But of course it will be expensive....

    Or maybe this one?

The NewTek Calibar would probably meet your needs also. It's about as portable as you get but it's been discontinued. Look for one on ebay.

Just out of curousity: a BNC connection from what? And is it just 1? Can 1 BNC transport HD video, analogue, that is?

    Cheers

  8. Avoid R&S - this good company but in RF not video - if You search for SD and HD signal just go for decent SDI.HD SDI source + coresponding converters, quite nice SD source (analog) is Tektronix TSG95, industry standard is TG700 from Tektronix but it is expensive and rack mountable - there is plenty of possibilities however nowadays any decent BD player (or HD media player) with correct disc can be similar in quality to older video generators.

It will be very good if You can clearly specify what you want to achieve.

Btw if you need description for a signal go for R&S application note about signals generated by R&S SAF - there is very comprehensive list of various signals with pictures and quite detailed description - based on this You can create OWN signals with excel (i prefer open office calc) - i made my personal library for such signals and some streams (mostly H.262) - they are same good as commercial libraries - verified against TG700 and TG2000 with VM700T - to be honest my signals are higher quality than R&S SAF (so few x1000 Euros in pocket + know how is a bonus).
