Hi
I have very strange problem with my polish subtitles. I tried to save them as a .srt (later I tried another format with the same result) and after saving my subtitles are loosing polish characters. When I'm using Subtitle Workshop I see all polish characters (fonts - letters) but after saving when I open them in Notepad They are not there. I have changed my regian for Poland I changed in windows Character Encoding for Central European (Windows-1250) and nothing changed. Can someone tell me what is my problem because I don't have any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance !!!!![]()

My post here, which is the 2nd post in this thread

tells you what you need to do. I'm sorry but it is not clear to me from what you wrote that you did these steps. You have to tell Windows what character set to use for non-Unicode programs to fix your problem. -
There is a pretty nice explanation here: http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2012/06/06/all-about-unicode-utf8-character-sets/
Basically ASCII/ANSI is a big hack
Do consider using UTF-8.
Subtitle Edit has a File -> Import subtitle with manual chosen encoding where you can see changes while browsing encoding:

I just tried it using Korean subs and was able to open it in Subtitle workshop. In your case, you saved your file in Subtitle Workshop so you will have to resave it again in Microsoft Word as Central European (Windows-1250), but open the file as a UTF8. I hope that helped.Last edited by mrcoolekin; 20th Jun 2012 at 12:42.
