The printer works via cable on my PC and wireless via my laptop.
    But the scanner wont work.

I get the error on my PC saying: "Cannot communicate with the scanner. Make sure the scanner is on, correctly setup and connected with no errors indicated".

On my Laptop the little scan box comes up but in brackets it says "not responding".

on my PC, When i go to scan settings i test the 'local' option and it says 'scanner not ready. Interface: Not Connected. Option: Unknown"
when i test the network option it says "the connection test was successful"

What could be wrong? I did uninstall everything and re-install it.

WHEN I photocopy using the buttons on the scanner it DOES work.

    hi paul.

what i did was uninstall and re-install. shut down and restarted everything and it worked. at this point i was sure it was the usb wire that was faulty as i replaced it.

as i dont use the scanner as often as the printer i noticed yesterday i ended up with the same problem all over again. i updated all firmware, switched printer, pc and laptop off and on (my printer is always on) took wires out and put them back in and after that the scanner worked from my laptop and not from my pc.

today SAME problem. PC says "Cannot communicate with the scanner. Make sure the scanner is on, correctly setup and connected with no errors indicated" and laptop says "unavailable: being used by user"!

it is beginning to get on my nerves.

  4. Thanks for your reply....

I've actually got mine working now. It was a case of finding the missing drivers for the scanner on the Epson website and installing on my PC.

Why they weren't installed at the start when I added the insall CD that came with it...I don't know!

    Good luck!

I have a somewhat strange suggestion for this problem. I've seen printers go into weird states due to power issues. Sometimes unplugging the printer from a power source AND (this is critical!) physically removing the power cable from the printer can fix weird issues. You can either leave the printer unplugged and without a power cable for about 30 minutes or if you have some spare power cables, just put another cable on it and connect it to power and turn it back on after waiting maybe a minute. I am not an electricity expert, but I've seen this work many times to solve weird printer problems. All I can figure is that some kind of electrical charge dissipates when you do that and that charge is causing the problem.

The above has worked for me, too, on a few occasions. It's worth a try.

  11. Hi. I've had this problem for more than a month, and finally I have fixed it!!!

I googled a lot for this problem and among others I found this thread of this website, so I've registered just to tell you how I did it.

First I updated the drivers from the epson website (this is not what causes the malfunction, but do it just in case). The scanner wonīt scan because for some reason the epson scan software has the wrong IP adress of the scanner (even if the printer works wirelessly).

You have to find out what IP adress your printer has inside your wifi network (mine was 192.168.0.16). Then, in Windows Start menu, search for "EPSON Scan Settings" (I donīt know for sure if those are the exact words because mine is in Spanish and it is called "Ajustes de EPSON Scan").

There is a button to add a new scanner. Click it and type in the IP adress manually, donīt wait for the software to find it because it wonīt.

    Finally, open EPSON scan and......MAGIC!!!

    Hope this helps

So I figured it out again... (Memory Loss! )

    for my pc...
    (Scanner connected via USB cable)
EPSON >>> EPSON Scan >>> EPSON Scan Settings
Under 'Connection' I clicked 'Local' and pressed 'ok'.

Scanner started working on my PC! Whoopee!

for my laptop i'm going to select 'Network' & hope that it works!

Can I also ask... HOW do I find out what IP address my printer has inside my wifi network??

  14. Many thanks to misterwhite got me sorted in 5 minutes

UmmAdam, Windows 8 found the IP address instantly (it was 192.168.0.3).

    Kudos!

Hi supreme... Would that be the same ip adddress for mine too? My printer and scanner is working on the pc where its connected via usb. But on my laptop neither is working wirelessly!

  16. Not sure, Addan, but you said you have a new ISP; do you have a new wireless hub as well? If so, the ip address may be different.

  17. Excellent Mr White. You have solved something Epson should have made available.

    thankyou

If neither are working wirelessly, uninstall every Epson software in your computer and reinstall everything with the CD, this way you will reconfigure the printer with the new wifi settings (if you donīt have the CD anymore or if your computer doesnīt have CD player, download it from here https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=cb946c5deb0df766&id=CB946C5DEB0DF766%21346&authkey=!AOege6JJqePQjR4 ).

My apologies for not explaining how to obtain the IP address of the printer, I hate it when people take things for granted when explaining something and I have done the same here

Go to: Start menu<Devices and printers and right click the printer (if your printer is listed twice, right click the one whose status says the printer is in the network) and go into properties ("Properties", not "Printer properties") and finally into Web services tab. The last line is the IP address which you will have to copy for the wireless scan setup.

Sorry for the 7 month delay, but as nobody replied my post for months I had completely forgotten about all this!

Hope there is nothing left this time

PS: if in the future scanning wirelessly stops working again, it might be because the printer has a different IP address, so don't panic. Just find the new IP address and change it in Epson scan settings
