I have seen external cases that will take a standard hard disc or CD writer with an EIDE connection and allow you to use it on a firewire or USB port. Theoretically USB2 and Firewire are both more than fast enough to support DVD writing and indeed you can already buy firewire DVD burners.
I think Maplins in the UK used to sell one of the converter cases but don't know if they still do. -
Yes the QPS-DVD-RW can do CD-R/RW it is realy a pioneer DV-103 (OEM version of the A03).
Based on that you should be able to put another DVD-R/RW/+R/+RW/RAM drive in a compatble Firewire-IDE case like the one QPS made. -
I priced it out and it since I see ppl saying the Pioneer is about $300, the QPS firewire shell is $100
The pre-built drive is $600.
I can save $200 by building the drive.
Also, later I can add a new hard drive because the firewire shell runs anything. -
you can do it fine... make sure your firewire case has a fan on the back though... the one i'm getting is 100 dollars at my local frys and quite nice.
