So if the internet rumors are true and Microsoft will introduce its own tablet this Monday is anybody interested?

I just bought a second class android tablet (velocity cruz t301) and am pretty pleased with it even though its only android 2.2 and limited in what apps it can and can't install. But as an ereader it seems to do quite well (can do kindle) and does h264 video (albeit sd - at up to 800x600 - and a 4:3 screen).

I was never really in a position nor really interested in getting a full power tablet. This was more of a toy than anything I'd use everyday for serious stuff. I still have two full desktops and a wdtv gen 1 and two game consoles (ps3 and xbox 360) so I really didn't need this to do stuff that I can already do. Its just to finally say I have a tablet and doodle with it.

But I do hope Microsoft does this right if it really is a tablet. However this could end up being zune 2.0. In other words a decent device but years late to the party. I have a zune 30gb and it does what I need it to. But they were too late to the party and didn't distinqish themselves enough to make a dent in the apple armor.

Anyone care if its a new Microsoft tablet? What if its something else they are introducing?

Does it even matter what they are introducing?

What if they are releasing bluray drive for the xbox 360? That would be neat though since I have my game consoles in the same room I just use my ps3 for bluray.

  2. Well, their first tablet released 10 years ago cost $2000. It had XP for a OS and was a flop.

Hopefully this one won't cost as much. And it will have Win 8 for an OS I bet.

We'll see if it is a winner.

No doubt. I'd be shocked if it was anything else.

Unless it was some ultra mini tablet with a new version of CE - win 8 CE for example.

Edit - I might not be too far off. Apparently there is something called windows rt. This is some different version. Might be the next gen of the CE platform. A lighter windows maybe?

If the Wodnows 8 and Window Phone UI works, then tablet UI should be OK. Apple has a good working model for its UI. It will be dump iif Msoft do not to follow.

They're going to be cloud based for the "Office" apps via Windows Live.

The rest of it will revolve around IE, and ActiveX. ActiveX is mostly taboo nowadays, but they might tweak it to make it super secure. That's the only way to make Windows portable. ActiveX. That's the Windows version of apps.

I'm sure they'll try to tye in with their HotMail or whatever their current web space has become.

MS is definitely running to the cloud, under attack from Google/Android. It's not that Android is so great, it's that people's time is already tied up with iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Android Tablets. Who has even the time to start all over.

Steve Ballmer is a clueless fat bald guy that's never achieved anything meaningful for MS, yet they don't can the guy. That means they're focus is on getting out on the cloud and branding themselves out on the frontier.

I wouldn't be surprised if they intend to get out of the OS business and become like IBM. Let Google have all the headaches and lawsuits. IBM is crap without Windows Enterprise Server, and that's their gravy train, but Oracle may be third man up in 20 years.

Adobe will never amount to anything but a software purveyor because Adobe has little in-house technology, they license everything and put it together in a GUI. I'll bet they're hoping MS doesn't close up Windows API's and start charging a license fee., hehehehe.
