Most BluRay players CANNOT be hacked. Ever. It's even getting harder to find just DVD players that can still be hacked as Hollywood discourages such. Note that the BluRay licensing agreement explicitly forbids manufacturers from allowing the player to be unlocked even if only for DVD playback, so that's one of the reason that it's so hard to find region free BD players.
If you ever get it hacked, note that it will ONLY be for DVD playback and NOT for BD playback.
Based on reports we've had on one Philips BD player that can be hacked (I don't remember the model number), you need to be aware that it does NOT convert between PAL and NTSC. So playing a PAL DVD on a hacked Philips BD player will give you PAL video output only. Many HDTVs sold in North America cannot handle PAL video input correctly. Samsung cannot. -
