october262 is to correct, but to provide more info...
Manufacturers sometimes change hardware and hacks that worked in the past don't work any more. Or the BDP9600/98 may be different enough from the BDP9600 that the hack doesn't work due to hardware differences.
Most BluRay players CANNOT be hacked. You also need to understand that while Philips does have a BluRay player that supposedly can be hacked (I don't remember the model - maybe it's the BDP9600) the reports we had on the hack was that the hack was for DVD playback only. And it get worse. Unlike Philips DVD players which can convert between NTSC and PAL, hacked region A Philips BluRay players do not convert. So PAL DVD is played as PAL video and it cannot be converted to NTSC. This is bad for a good number of HDTVs sold in North America at present. Samsung HDTVs, for example, will not be able to play PAL video.
If live in North America (you don't say where you live in your profile) and you truly need a region free BluRay player, you may have no choice but to buy one of the expensive Oppo models. Momitsu used to make region free BluRay players for North America but they have abandoned the marketplace now. If you buy an Oppo, do note that all Oppo players require a hardware modification to be region free. Some resellers do this for you. Others make you find it and install it yourself. You will need to research any Oppo reseller to see what they do. Oppo does NOT ship region free players themselves as doing so is a violation of the BluRay licensing agreement. However, it should not be difficult to find information about the mod on the internet.
If you just need a region free DVD player, the Philips DVP3560 can still be made region free. If you need region free, whatever you do, do NOT buy Sony or Samsung. -
Thanks for u help. now i now a little more about that.but its to late to give back the player now.
