  1. The nero 11 suite (containing Nero Video) is one hell of a download for me and before i even try and buy I would like to ask whether nero has a scheduler that can capture TV or AV input from a recognized capture device. It is an important issue for me as it makes itmore valuable to buy the suite

What are the other capturing programs out there that i can try with my USB TV Tuner stick which is the one seen here
    http://www.enter-peripherals.com/tvtuner_stick.html

    Specification
    • Interface: USB 2.0
    • TV Tuner: Xceive XC2028 silicon tuner
    • Chipsets: Trident TV Master 5600
    • Video Capture Rate: 25 fp/s (PAL), 30 fp/s (NTSC)
    • TV Standards: NTSC_M/J, PAL_B/D/I/M/N, SECAM_B/D/K
    • Analogy Video Resolution: 720*576 (PAL), 720*480 (NTSC)
    • Audio Support: Mono
You may well ask why I am not using the software provided with the device - and the answer is that the software provided does not have the ability to schedule record from the composite AV of the device and the company has not been very helpful when i requested contact

Thanks for any answers, help, advice or recommendations on this issue

I've got Nero 10 and I'm not aware of any ability to do video capturing or scheduling in the software.

To be blunt, you can't buy a subcompact car and expect it to be like a stretch limousine only cheaper. I'm not very fond of the cheap USB solutions like this. Your card is so unusual that I can't even find anybody that sells it, which is not a good sign. Often the ONLY capture software that works on this kind of cheap device is the one that comes with it. You could install VirtualDub and see if it's even possible to capture using your device. I don't use VirtualDub for this task as it won't work with my capture card, but if it works at all maybe there is some kind of scheduler you can find for it.

    Nero, think not.

Hauppuage products do have a scheduler. I have bever used it tho.

As for your product, I can only see a composite (via an adapter) but is there an aerial socket as well ?

Rather than waste the download on Nero, download the trial of ChrisTv. That may work.

Chris TV Professional is the only option in their product offerings that might work for you, but that is not a certainty

I can't find out enough about your device to be sure, but there is a small possibility Windows 7's Media Center might also work. However you defineitely need to install an MCE RC6 compatible remote with an IR receiver/IR blaster. Otherwise. Media Center will not allow you to set up your device. I have used Windows Media Center with a different device for analog capture and set up is a time consuming process.

Most of the current freeware Windows solutions are geared towards digital tuners for recording over-the-air programming. Some don't support analog tuners or analog capture devices at all. Even if the software does support them, setting up for analog capture is more difficult, and a hardware encoder is required. Since your device doesn't have a hardware encoder, they are not an option.

I think Beyond TV (not free) also requires a device that provides hardware encoding.

I don't know enough about Linux's MythTV to offer an opinion.

Ummm, that's not true...at all. I've got an ATI Theatre 650 Pro installed in my Win7 box, and it works just fine (configuring and using) without any sort of remote control installed -- the keyboard and mouse get the job done just fine.
