I have downloaded a Flash video and have used ConvertXtoDVD to convert it to DVD format. To say the least, it is a bit blurry. Is there anything to do to get better quality from this type of file or is it just a matter of GIGO? As a note, I also tried to use DVDFlick, my old standby, to do the conversion, with the same results.

Most likely yes. Probably either poor conversion on the uploaders end or it was just a poor source to begin with.

You can use filters in a program like virtualdub (use directshowsource to open the flv file). However remember you will be reencoding it which will lead to more quality loss.

Best to try to locate another source of the video. Hopefully a cleaner one. If that is not possible than you will have to try to "enhance" it or just live with it the way it is. But remember there is no magical filter to make it look perfect. There are tradeoffs in everything.

What's the resolution of the original file? Many of those flv's are low res and unimproveable.

Sometimes the original uploader submitted a better quality file, but the site you got it from only had a lower res version. Sometimes programs can sniff out the url of the better one. But I've found that process and the programs available to be a pain in the ass. I don't bother anymore.

Thanks for the replies. Virtualdub didn't help very much. I'm afraid that the original was really low res. Looks like what I have is as good as it's going to get.

virtualdub wouldn't help, nor would any other encoder. Try looking under stream downloaders in the tools section.

I got the file with Download Helper. Stream Transport wouldn't touch it, for some reason.
