Does it play:
- DVD-A
- SACD
- cDVD
- MPEG on data discs
I'm waiting for the player that does it all. -
I don't know ... yet
I just bought one from SAM's yesterday, and I haven't hooked it up yet -
IT CERTAINLY DOES MPEG ON DATA DISCS.
I DIDNT TRY SACD OR DVD-A
AND I DONT KNOW WHAT CDVD IS. -
WOW CONO SURE LIKE USING CAPS!
Sure Apex players can play anything but a sandwich but what good is it what PICTURE QUALITY SUCKS! (thats a good thing to put in caps :P) Who cares if it can play a bunch of stuff if it shows more blocks than a game of tetris, compair it side by side to a more well known brand name and you will see the difference. -

GRAVITY HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT -
I AGREE!!
i have 2 apex players.. the original 600a and 1500.. both are wonderful.. i also had a toshiba dvd player.. i stop using that.. hah.. as for quality.. i dont know how you can tell but quality seemed the same and up to par with those BRAND NAME players.. and im connecting it to a sony 36inch via svideo..
i remmeber back in the day when i got my apex 600a.. everyone was buying their 300-400 brand name expensive dvd players that didnt even play CDRs.. LOL.. -
How long have you had the 5131? After about 1 month of heavy use
the 5131 I had started to freeze about half way thru SVCDs and DVDs.
I used to leave it on all day and play kids movies about every night.
I seemed Xtra sensitive to scratched, smudged, or old low quality
disks. My Samsung on the other hand seems to be able to read right
thru a bullet hole in the disk.
Apex 5131: Tons of features made me love it. But I couldn't depend
upon it to play the whole movie. Had to take it back to CC. Just a little
over the deadline but I bought the service agreement so they let it slide.
I got a GE 5803P from Mr. Walton for $150 and it seems to have a bit
better quality. Also, it does about everything the 5131 does except the
Kodak cds.
BTW I've done InHomeTests on Apex 1200, 1500, 5131 and Pioneer
C503D.
Thank god for return policies!I mean it in the nicest way. -
well i will have to agree with him,i think that the apex doesnt have all that grand of a picture quality.the one that i have the picture on it does have more blocks than tetris, the panasonic that i had,had the best picture quality that i have seen by far,but it stopped working,(it was extremely old, well for DVD it was),the GE that I had also had a excellent picture on it,which now my apex hasnt done anything but give me trouble since the day that i bought it,so I dont know how trustworthy my agreement with this post can be.
I mean i have had nothing but trouble with it,this has been the third one that i have went through in a span of two months,my VCDs dont work right,my DVDs skip,(and it seems to be the ones that I love, the ones that i dont care that much for dont skip),I have had it cleaned and cleaned but nothing seems to work.SO i will have to agree with this post. But if anyone has any suggestions for me,I will gladly take them. Thanks

Apex's are nice and support a wide variety of formats... IF YOU REPLACE THE ROM DRIVE INSIDE.
I have a 500W model for sale (what works, anyway) in case anyone's interested. -
Good luck replacing a DVD-Rom on a 3 disk changer like the 5131
I mean it in the nicest way. -

Apex OEMs its production to a number of different companies so you shouldn't really generalise one model's faults/attributes to another.
As for video quality, there can be significant differences between players (especially those that do some filtering) in terms of VCDs and SVCDs.

i have an Apex600-a and it plays 480x480 1650 bitrate...i have thought about getting the same Apex 3disk changer from Sams except my parents have another Apex player and it won't read 480X480, just 356X240..does anyone know if the one from Sams can read 480X480 or just 356X240...same bitrate....
