    Hi,

I did a little research on the forum, but I have not found yet.

I need to record approximately eight hours of live TV news per day. At the same time I need to create extracts that I can email it, but without stop my recording.

What is the most economical equipment that I might have to meet my needs. Of course while remaining easy to use and above all reliable.

Currently I have a recorder / DVD burner from Pioneer 550-h, but it is a flawed tool for my use.

    Thank you for your help.

You probably need a tuner card in a computer to do that. Are you watching the news while recording it, or do you want to be able to review your recording and extract excerpts? Screen capture software could work if you are choosing the clips as they are happening. A dual tuner would probably be needed if you wish to review the footage and pick your clips. With a dual tuner the workflow would be something like this:
    1) Start recording with tuner 1
    2) When you want to review and edit start recording with tuner 2
    3) Stop the tuner 1's recording
    4) Edit the file from the tuner 1
    5) Next time you want to edit, go to step 2 and reverse the tuner numbers.

A good dual tuner might be this one: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr2250.html

edit: If you need the full 8 hour recording too, you'll have to stitch it back together from the alternating tuner 1/tuner 2 recordings.

  3. You need the following imo :
-a dvb card (for canada Atsc ?? need confirmation) with two tuners preferably so can watch another channel
    - dvbviewer pro (support dvb/atsc) : software to record from your card
    - Videoredo : a software to edit .ts files

I have tried to record and cut the .ts file while it was still recording and it worked fine. Not tried on HD

    My equipment
    - technisat skystar2 see here (cost me 15€ second hand

    - Dvbviewer pro 4.9.6 (license cost: 15€)
    - Video Redo Tv Suite V4
