Pls i need a really Help

Hello every one i just bought 3d tv and blu ray player of tohiba
so i downloaded few sbs(side by side) so i just wondering how to add subtitle to sbs movie so i google it
i found two programs :

so the first one gave me .sup file and second gave me .ass file

so i google more and found mkvmerge

to merge one of these type of subtitle with the movie : this movie : http://www.3dsbs.com/3dsbs-releases-3dmovies/435-the-smurfs-3d-2011-1080p-half-sbs-ac3...s-release.html

so at first i merged the .sup file and when i play the new mkv file on VLC the subtitles works then i move it into(mkv file) USB
and connected it into the blu ray player i dont have any susbtitles and i try to click on the button subtitles it says that the mkv file has subtitles but i dont see any of them.

so i tried the second file wich is .ass and it gave me same result
what i should do to fix that problem ?
my blu ray player is toshiba bdx 3200

Buy your movies on blu-ray 3d instead of downloading warez. And in the future choose a better thread title.
