  1. I got this hookup that I am going to mention here for what look like just what I needed. I have OTA and cable box, converter box, also a mono vcr, and LCD HDTV. Here is the setup given to me: OTA >in 2 x 1 splitter, 1 output going to TV> in and the other going to another 2 x 1splitter >in. Of that second splitter, one cable going to my PC and the other to the input of my converter box. The output of the converter box to >VCR in, VCR out to TV. In this setup I can record my OTA channels only. I cannot find a way to record my cable channels. I did a channel search on my VCR and at different times I chose in setup, antenna choice and then cable...same results. I can record OTA by my VCR's remote's channel 03. For those who are wondering why i am bothering with a converter box is because of my layout...I can view my OTA chnls on my PC TV Tuner and also on my LCD HDTV, with its rf input...in the event cable problem I can see all my local channels here in NYC with that connection. Any ideas on how i can also record my cable channels?

Forgotten so soon? LOL the ones that the government had us get free or for $20 when analog was going off the air. Now that the anologs are gone, that is the only way one can get their local channels in digital form, especially with an OTA or indoor antenna.

What outgoing video and audio connections does the cable box offer? Does the VCR provide any A/V inputs other than coax?

  5. It's been a awhile since I had a VCR but I remember I had to use the analog jacks(yellow, red, white) to record from my cable box, I would run the coax to the TV.

If the cable box has S-Video out and left and right audio out ... you should not have any problems. But it would be helpful to mention what kind of Cable Box you have ... so we can look it up online and see what connections it has on the back panel.
