  1. I've been using Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate to convert files from MKV or MP4 to AVI for play on my Samsung BluRay player. I usually include the subtitles in the AVI because my player doesn't seem to handle external srt files. This has worked fine for a while now, but recently the subtitles have been distorted in most of the resulting AVI files. I wasn't sure how to explain it, so I'm just including a screenshot. I have no idea why this is happening now, unless it's just something to do with the source files.

Anyone seen this before or have any idea what I could do about it?

    Thanks!

  2. It looks to me like both the outline color and the anti-alias color are the same - black. If the VobSubs are using three colors for the letters (main color, outline color, anti-alias color), you should change the anti-alias color to something else, dark grey probably.

  3. The application will allow me to change the font, color, size, style, transparency level, and line spacing. There's no options for outline or anti-alias color though. Is there some other way to do that?

  4. You can change VobSub colors in VobSub Configure, included in the VobSub package.

I have no idea whether or not this Xilisoft Video Converter will honor what you did. Me, I'd not use anything made by Xilisoft to begin with.

  5. Ok, VobSub only applies to software players though, right? I need a way to encode the subtitles (with appropriate outline/antialias colors) in a Divx/AVI format for playback on my BluRay player. Is there any app that can do that?

Will your player properly play softsubs created using AVIAddXSubs, or by otherwise muxing the subtitle stream into an AVI, rather than hardsubbing?

  7. I'm not sure if it will play those or not. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

I said VobSub Configure. It applies the color changes permanently.
Is there any app that can do that?
AutoGK, among others, and the CTRL/F8 trick:

Use the drop-down box to select the VobSubs (IDX/SUB) rather than the default text-based subs.
