    No need to re-encode videos. The only thing you must do: To change the container format to MP4. You can download direct the uploaded file.

    Forexample: I can upload AVCHD camcorder files without re-encoding in mp4 container:

    They must have changed the upload rules recently. There is plenty of MPEG2 stuff on there, especially in the Prelinger Archives.

    archive.org is not a web video hosting service. It's actually more like a smorgasbord of content ever shown anywhere on the internet (e.g. see the wayback machine for that). They use some sort of web spiders and create backups of site contents. So do not confuse it with services like Youtube or OCH like Rapidshare or akin.
