Using TMPGenc to convert from timeline ---> avisynt ---> MPEG2 for making XSVCD, TMPGenc ask upper field or bottom field first? I remember that Matrox RT2000 wants work with upperfield, using DV material, but TMPGenc says the oppose. Who is right?

If this sounds like a silly response, oh well
Try a 5-10 second clip with each first and see which looks right when converted. Go with that method. -
It totally depends on the movie, there's no one setting that will always be right. I think that most movies upper field 1st, though. Try what TheInformer said; its what I do if I'm not sure.
