  1. Hi. I have mkv file with resolution 720x404. How to change resolution to 720x400 using MKVToolnix?

  2. MvkToolnix can't crop or reencode. Why bother cropping 4 lines anyway?

You can force the display width/height and cropping in the format specific options for the video stream. But not all players will respect that.

  3. I'd like to do this because I love to watch x264 (resolution 720x404) TV series on my TV (not on PC display). My TV is old 14'' CRT and I have blurred bar at bottom of screen during playback. It's a little annoying. On this pic you can see what I'm talking about (this is not pic from my TV but the same effect I have).

On 2nd pic it's manually blurred space but on my mkv there's not this blurred bar on pc. Only on TV as I said earlier.

Or another question. How to remove this blurred bar?

  4. Head switching noise like that is on all VHS (and other) tapes. I'm surprised that your CRT TV shows it because most CRTs overscan by enough to hide it. But you can use the MKV cropping option and see if your players supports it.

Sounds like it was digitized from a VHS copy of a VHS. When you get compound generations of VHS, you OFTEN get head switch problems occurring further and further into the main part of the picture.

  6. The blurred part looks to me like someone used a logo (subtitle?) remover tool. You can't fix it. At least, not easily. If you have the same shot without the blurred sections you could cut from the good frame and paste onto the bad frame. But if things are moving it gets very complex. Or you could export as an image sequence and paint them by hand, then convert the images back into video. But you'll be spending months, even years of your life.

    Just live with it.

It's doesn't work. It's still blurred bar. Thanks for advice anyway.

As I said before - these two pics are not from me but problem is the same / familar. There's not the blurred part on mkvs playback on my 2nd 16:9 TV set or 16:9 PC display. I think it's something wrong with my HD media tank. I think I will just live with it.

There's great life outside so it's doesn't worth too much thinking about this problem and waisting time

    michael: PLEASE don't cross post.

Did you try change the cropping values in mkvtoolnix(see the image above)? Note that most players will probably ignore the settings. You must the crop and reconvert with something else.
