Hi guys
Im new here so bear with me.
Basically, i have quite a few ripped mkvs on my mac and need to put them on an external hard drive to save space.
My drive is formatted to fat32 and i need it to remain as fat32 because i have nearly 1tb of media that i can't copy anywhere to format it to NTFS.
So my guess is I have to split the MKV's to fit them on as Fat32 is limited to 4gb and some of my MKVs are over 20gb
My question is would it be possible to have an MKV link file that would play each part of the mkv in turn kind of like a playlist but universal to any device ( i have an LG tv which can play mkvs)
Basically what I'm getting at is would it be possible to have it set up as below:
/files/Movie.001.mkv
/files/Movie.002.mkv
...
/Wholemovie.mkv
Any suggestions much appreciated

While I believe it is possible for MKV to support references (aka extents), probably via "Segments" or "Attachments" sections, I don't know of ANY implementation that currently takes advantage of this. Certainly not like MOV/MP4 or MXF.
You could always create a playlist metafile (like .ASX, .PL, .WMX types). But whether your player(s) support playlists is also debateable.
Much easier for you to get a 2nd Harddrive (external), Format it to NTFS, Copy/Move your existing files over to it, then re-format your existing HDD.

Yes, the MKV spec does offer a feature called 'ordered chapters,' where an MKV can call an external MKV and have that play (and return to the original video, if necessary). But support for that on a standalone hardware player is rather unlikely.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
