Salvaging Interlaced Video with one bad feild?

Hi
I have some video with one field bad. (likely dirty head). How can I salvage this ? Will Vegas play one field only and interpolate the other?

Or maybe Vdub?

vegas won't interpolate (in the sense of generating new frames or fields from motion interpolation), it can only blend or duplicate

one option would be to discard the bad field and use avisynth / mvtools2 to interpolate the missing information

VirtualDub's deinterlace filter will let you discard one field and resize back to the original height with various options.

How bad is the field you're discarding? Can it be fixed? That would give the best results, if possible.

The field is total jiburish. The camera went on the fritz. I am amazed how well it looks with only one field! It was unwatchable before...
