I used to record the audio what I hear when I used Win XP OS. I could do it even while headphone was on and without mic. Now, I switched over to Win 7 Home Basic. I am not able to record what I hear but only thro mic. Do I need to change any setting. I have Win 7 Home Basic OS, Intel (R) Core (TM) i3 540 @ 3.07 GHz, no separate sound card but inbuilt with MB, Intel DH 55 TC, Realtek High Definition Audio. Also, I find the volume very low even while the audio mixer setting is made to 100%. So, I want to disable the 'Mixer'.

    Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Download and install the full featured driver from the manufacturer of your motheboard or Realtek. The basic driver installed automatically by Win7 doesn't support "what you hear" or "stereo mix".

Thank you jagabo. I updated the driver software fully from intel to the latest version. This helped me and also following others instructions, I am glad to say that I could record the way I wanted.

  7. You can also get some helpful steps to recording with Audacity, including a step guide to configuring Windows to record from a microphone, line, or MIDI, from "Audacity101." Just Google for Audacity101 and click on the search button twice.
