A friend is trying to edit movies taken with his Camcorder. He's tried an earlier version of Adobe Premiere without success; what software (or codecs to install) can he use to edit his movies. Included MediaInfo of one of his clips.

    What version Premiere?

The method most used would be conversion to a format supported by Premiere such as progressive MPeg2, uncompressed YUY2 or other digital intermediate (MJPEG RGB, Cineform, etc). Since the video is 1280x720p @ 29.97 fps, DV format is not suggested.

AAC audio should be uncompressed to PCM

He said v2 of Premiere. Will the newer versions read it natively without conversion? What software would he need to convert, though this sounds time consuming as he has a lot of video.

V2 of Premiere was back in the 1980s.

Premiere Pro 2.0 (post y2k) was targeted at DV format but could also handle fully uncompressed (with appropriate RAID) or some lower than SD formats. Best 3rd party codec choice I can think of for 720p to single drive is Video for Windows MJPEG codec (e.g PICvideo, Morgan Multimedia). These were popular back then.

Thanks for the info. I think he needs to upgrade his version of Premiere as I am pretty sure he will be able to import it without problem in the newer versions.

True for AVC but not sure about Sony PSP variant. Check the Adobe format support list.

Sony Vegas will export to PSP format but I don't think can import without 3rd party conversion.
