  2. Check the How to section to the left.

Yes DV takes up a lot of space about 4gb per 18 minutes. You can use virtual dub or other programs that will do segmented capture, or switch to an operation system that does not have the 4gb file limitations such as windows xp or 2000. Then convert the dv (avi) to mpeg.

The reality is that video does take up a lot of space. 8)

  3. That seems to be the norm for DV captures from a camcorder.

I have a Sony DV camera and I am in the process of creating a VCD from a VHS tape. I am using my Sony as a converter to go from the analog signal of the VHS to a DV signal for the computer. I don't have a capture card just a FireWire card.

The movie is 2 hours in length and I'm using Premiere. The captured movie takes up 27 GB (Luckily I have a 60 GB NTFS drive). I took a small sampling... a minute or two and the .avi file was about 2 GB in size. After converting to mpeg, it was only about 2-3 MB in size.

i was a little dissapointed in converting to VCD, i.e not as sharp as I expected (being critical) but SVCD is excellent.
