  1. Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I have a Video_TS folder that I need to burn to disc to play in a dvd player. I've attempted to do it once and it plays on the laptop but not in the dvd player and it's for a friend without a P.C.
I've googled it and found that the problem is that the files have to be in a certain order but I'm still confused.
I'm using CDBurnerXP as my video card doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Windows DVD maker.

The files in the folder are as follows -

    Video_TS.BUP
    Video_TS.IFO
    VTS_01.0.BUP
    VTS_01.0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB

If somebody could advise me on the correct order to make it play on a dvd player I'd really appreciate it, or any other advise to make it work would be great.

    Thank you.

Use ImgBurn - it will do it correctly....it is the best DVD burner available today and it's free.

To make DVDs that work in (most) ALL settops, etc, you need to have AUTHORED assets that are DVD-Video spec compliant. Are yours already compliant? We don't know.

Assuming they are: use a Burner app which knows how to burn those files in the correct order, etc. Use ImgBurn! It will do the correct job, better than just about any other burning app, whether free or payware. Also use GOOD media - this makes a difference.

Assuming they are NOT: you must re-author your files to make them compliant. This may or may NOT require re-encoding.

Assuming encoding is NOT required: Use VOB2MPG to retrieve the original mpg assets and then use a valid DVD-Video authoring program (DVD-AuthorGUI, TMPGEncDVDAuthoring, Encore, DVDArchitect, many others). Then burn with ImgBurn.

Assuming encoding IS required: Use VOB2MPG to retrieve the original MPG assets, then re-encode to DVD-Video compliant MPG and then use an authoring program. Then burn.

BTW, does windows DVD-maker actually stop running and tell you that your card isn't up to par? Because video card choice has usually very little to do with encoding, authoring & burning (unless we're talking CUDA assistance)...

  4. Hi thanks for the help, I'll give that a go. How do I know if they are authored?

When I try an run Windows dv maker a box comes up that says it cannot start because the video card installed on the computer does not meet the system requirements.

    Thanks.

Normally, the output of correctly authored assets is like the VIDEO_TS folder structure you mentioned above. But we here all know of newbie users who "cut corners" and just rename MPGs into VOBs and dump them into VIDEO_TS folders, thinking that's all that needs to be done. Such a FAKE structure might fool the user into thinking it's ok, and not matter to a smart-enough computer (further fooling the user), but it grinds a SETTOP player to a halt.

You could run IFOEdit or PGCEdit or DVDshrink or DVDredo on them. If they don't see things the way they ought to be, they at least ought to warn you.

What's your card? If it's THAT under spec, maybe it is time to upgrade.

  6. Hi, okay thanks for that. Tbh I'm not sure what the video card is, I'm using my mums laptop that's years old lol, my lovely ex put a hammer to my beloved pc so I'm saving up for a new one but it's taking a while as I want a good one.
Okay I'm going to attempt to do this now, wish me luck lol.
